Hello I’m Dylan from GunSpot and in this video, we will be reviewing The Alien Gear Cloak Mod outside the waistband Holster.

I personally really like paddle holsters. I think it’s the ultimate easy to use holster for the average shooter. The Cloak Mod Outside the Waistband Holster, like most of Alien Gear’s holsters, is a customizable system. This holster is made out of a durable plastic called Boltaron, with a thermo elastomer retention membrane that is reinforced with a spring-steel flex plate. This layer provides strength, support, and retention for your holster. Then, of course, there is the firearm specific shell that keeps your gun secure.

Which brings me to what I think is the coolest thing about this holster you can buy this holster for 1 gun and then choose from over 500 shells of different guns of all sizes and they will all work on this base. For example, I can use this same base as a holster for a Glock 17, a Glock 34, and my M&P shield. It’s nice that I can buy this for a Glock 17 and then for around $15 I can buy a shell for my shield and use it for that as well. Alien Gear is also super quick about getting shells out for new pistols so when you buy your brand new handgun it won’t be long before you can buy a shell for it.

This holster can be completely disassembled by removing six bolts. Upon doing that you can change the cant of your holster to forward, reverse and neutral. You can also choose to have a paddle back or a belt slide to attach the holster to your belt. With the paddle attachment your holster can be quickly taken on and off by you, but still remains secure on your belt. With the belt slide, your belt has to be threaded through which results in a more secure fit.

You can get a drop leg attachment for this base and a wall mount that lets you attach it to almost anywhere. This holster is my go-to holster for range time. With the paddle, it’s so easy to slide the holster onto and off your belt. It holds your gun securely and it’s very light which makes it super comfortable to wear.

This holster isn’t too bulky to wear in your car either, which is great. You can adjust the retention of the holster by tightening the 4 bolts on the front or by switching out the included spacers.

Do I think this holster is ready for duty carry or the battlefield? No, and I don’t think that’s the target audience for this holster anyways. If you are marching into war or it’s for duty I would opt for you to get an actual duty holster, because of their added security, which by the way Alien Gear makes one, and we did a review of it. If you haven’t checked out that video you can do that on our YouTube channel.

I personally wouldn’t use this holster as a conceal holster either. I think Alien Gear has great options for inside and outside the waistband conceal holsters and one of those would suit better for concealment. I think this holster is perfect for the range or going on a hike. Now the cool thing is you can have this cloak mod holster and the shells for it will fit on the conceal holster backs from Alien Gear as well.

The only thing I dislike about this holster is after a day at the range full of drawing and re-holstering the bolts can start to get loose particularly on the back. My paddle back will actually rattle around a little bit at the end of the day. Now, in my personal opinion, if this was really a troubling issue, for me and was something that was unacceptable. I think a single drop of blue thread lock on each bolt would probably do the trick.

All in all, this is the holster I use the most just because it’s easy to use, customizable and at a price of $47 you really can’t go wrong. Plus it’s lightweight, comfortable and it’s really easy to take on our off my belt. I also like being able to spend $15 dollars and get a new shell that fits this back so that I can take any of my handguns to the range and have a holster for it. You get a lot of bang for the buck out of this holster. It's a tremendous value in my opinion and because of that it is the one I use the most and I will always have this holster.

Okay, that’s it for this video I want to say a special thank you to Alien Gear holsters for sending this over for us to make a review about. You can buy your own Cloak Mod Holster on Alien Gear’s website. I will put a link in the description below.
